FaefolkWithin the realms of mysticism and magic there are few as elusive as the Fae themselves, mischievous, enigmatic and vast in variety; like a child's imagination. They themselves are known to section themselves into 'factions' of a sort: The Seelie, often benevolent in nature and The Unseelie, the more malevolent. Of course there are also those who choose not to section themselves, the minds of Fae are a mystery to mortals, opaque by nature. When delving into their Hierarchy it is wise to keep their whimsical ways at heart, various civilization a depict these creatures differently and there is a reason for this: The first variation most commonly found is the four courts, Spring and Summer for the Benevolent or Seelie, Autumn and Winter for the more mischievous or Unseelie, others include the belief in King Obereon or the Faerie Queen - these are but a few. Their home, naturally, carries many renditions as well, from The Hedge, Arcadia, Fae Realm and The Wyld, but the list goes on. Their goals to curiously study mortals, abduct children or creatures to forge into Fae themselves or simply protect nature all describe a basic idea of their usual choices of activity; but it is far from all they do. Some are tied to obscure rules or arranged deals, others have quirks bizarre to any non-Fae. In summary, a long with such varying cultures, depictions.and forms that can appear anything between animalistic, humanoid or floral it will be quite the endeavor to ever know the extent of their incomprehensible variety.
General Lifespan It is not uncommon for faefolk to live for hundreds if not thousands of years. However, they are not immortal and can be killed. Strengths/Abilities Their power can lie in the natural magics, healing, illusion. These can be twisted into shadows, poison but elemental control is one always neutral. They're knowledgeable creatures rivaling the Dragon, at times, rather easily. They're also well known for making deals with travelers and thus own many, many rare trinkets. Weakness Iron is poison to Fae, they're attracted to beauty and silver often to their detriment and a damaged or weakened forest can lead to a weakened Fae due to their close ties. There are rumors of their desire to count spilled sugar, addiction to sweets or honey but none can be varied due to their expansive race. Subject of Glamour and Banality: Glamour is, to put it simply, the magic natural to those of those of the Fae Realm, a means to cast illusion and transmogrify or shape shift. It is also their own self belief, confidence, but such things can be counteracted by Banality. The negative, Banality is the loss of self belief, the sparkle of imagination dying though it can be easily overcome by ones on confidence; it is a balance ever fought for by some. |
