role play experience with us. For the easiest quickest way to get started follow the guide below and don't forget to read up on our best rp experience guide.
Getting Started
- Join the main group and grab the HUD
- Read the rules thoroughly and at least skim through the Nuvaria lore.
- Read the Character Creation Rules.
- Although it isn't required immediately, we highly recommend filling out a Character Sheet at some point.
- Using the city information boards is a great way to get started in RP.
Currency (coming soon)
Currency can be earned by turning in business role play, robbing other players, mining, and trading with other players.
You can use this currency to pay rent & buy special items for a temporary boost.

Lagging?
- Lower your draw distance, we recommend below 100.
- Turn off shadows & projection lights.
- If you are lagging due to a high number of people on sim you can try lowering Maximum Complexity. However this may be server side lag caused by avatar movement and players consistently entering the sim, which we can do nothing about.
RP Etiquette & Guide for the Best RP Experience!
- ERP or erotic roleplay is not a focus in Nuvaria and should not be the priority focus of players here.
- Approach people for role play, don’t wait around for someone to come to you. You will have significantly more activity if you seek it and a good role player will appreciate your approach. You’ve got nothing to lose!
- Unsure of what to do? Checking out the city information boards is a great way to get started. Post an ad for seeking work or find out what businesses or factions may already be seeking members.
- Don't play a Mary Sue
- Always respect a player’s limits! You never know why they are there in the first place. But also be reasonable with your own limits. If your character is nearly untouchable you will discourage at least half or more of all role play towards yourself. Limits should be there to protect YOU from potentially mentally harmful/disturbing scenarios, not to protect your character.
- It's recommended that you mirror your limits if you have them, as it would be unfair to for example chop off Tom's hand when your limits disallow your own character's hand from being chopped off. We suggest setting limits in your profile picks.
- In Character Insults: Getting into ic arguments and having back and forth insults can be fun and amusing at times. However if you are going to throw IC insults around it's best to make your character SAY it rather than narrate this. Narrating an insult can easily appear as salty or toxic, since it doesn't give the other player a chance to respond without metagaming. Insulting in narration more often than not is in poor taste and can discourage people from playing with you altogether since it appears as though you don't want to play fair or feel the need to have 'the last word' without consequences.
- While you aren't expected to post a novel players don't want a one sentence post either. The content of your post is what matters most. It's important to put some effort into your posts to make them believable and a lot easier to understand. If your posts don't convey much then don't expect to be taken seriously.
- Never forget that the story is about everyone. The more you make others feel important and include their plots the more encouraged people will be to engage with you and further your own plots.
- Role play isn’t a contest it’s cooperative story building. Trying to “win” everything will earn you nothing worth having in the RP universe. No one wins and gets away with everything every time.
- Don’t take personal (ooc) offense to the words or actions of another character. This is an opportunity not a personal attack. Chances are they would rather see you laugh about it than get offended oocly. No great story is complete without conflict.
- Do not disrespect or try to correct player characters in ooc chat towards what you deem tasteful, this is toxic behavior.
For example: "That's not how you should play a mermaid." - Don't try to fix player character's flaws. Good players have flaws in place for a reason, while it's okay to offer help towards a character issue, never try to force a change to their character that they may not want.
- Sphere of Nuvaria is equipped with it's own lore that is meant to enhance your experience while you role play on this sim. It is meant to be used and advanced over time. We expect and encourage creative reveries written by you, the player. That being said, due to the impossibly large amount of creative licenses, understand that the only lore that is advanced, defended, and written, is the Native Lore on our website and present within the sim. Additionally, it's important to respect the personal lores of your fellow players as it is their creative right to expand on their own characters. An example would be producing your own werewolf lore that might counter to a more wide spread public lore, such as White Wolf's Werewolf. These lores can co-exist and the sim respects them both, as should the players who use them to bring color to their own characters.
- Give people time to post and be aware of your own time. We suggest not taking longer than 10-15 minutes to post if it can be helped. But remember this isn’t a requirement! Some players have language barriers, there could be medical issues at play, and some simply want to take the time to give you the best possible response. However, avoid holding someone up because you are distracted with something else unless it has been discussed.
- At the end of the day the most powerful and effective form of role play is simply playing not only for yourself but for others.
