Don't be OP
The following actions should always be avoided and failing to do so will likely end poorly for you and anyone involved. It's best to always make sure you are playing fair and not trying to make the scene all about yourself.
People are quick to be offended when accused of the following but sometimes these are easy mistakes to make. Be quick to correct yourself if you make these mistakes but also be forgiving and understanding of those who do. Remind yourself it may not be intentional and kindly inform them.

Godmodding
This is extremely frowned upon and with good reason: you play your own character and no one else's. Godmoding could entail either a player controlling other player's characters or the scene as a whole without permission, also performing closed ended attacks, or creating a character that is seemingly invincible.
Example 1:
Grandma mega punched Tom in the chest, breaking all of his ribs and stopping his heart instantly.
Example 2:
Sexy Grandma entered the room, causing everyone to stare in awe and drool uncontrollably.
Example 3:
Sexy Grandma didn't get enough attention, so she cursed the land into oblivion.

Powergaming
A power gamer is someone who plays to have their own way or to win everything. If they can't get their way ICly they may also try OOCly. A power gamer will likely sacrifice the quality of role play in favor of their character, for more power, or in order to "win". This could also be forceful role play, by performing actions that do not give other players the chance to resist or roleplay their own response.
Definition 1: Roleplaying outside of your characters traits, abusing mechanics.
Example 1:
Blobert is breaking the law, so Jubby grabs him and throws him in jail.
Example 2:
Blobert's friends arrive to break him out of jail. But Jubby doesn't want to deal with it so Jubby posts an exit from that area and takes Blobert somewhere else without giving them an opportunity to stop her.
Example 3:
Blobert's friends are persistent and Jubby wants nothing to do with it, so she erases Blobert's memory of the entire scenario immediately and escapes on her own before Blobert's friends catch up again.

Metagaming
The use of out of character knowledge in an in character situation. This also means a character might not be acting in a way that reflects their in character experiences or background. It will also be considered metagaming if one player is playing multiple characters which exchange vital information between themselves from separate scenes.
Example 1:
Lacy speaks to Potato in IMs OOCly about their plans to rob the bank in Nuvaria.
Potato then decides to go and ICly warn the guards that Lacy is planning a heist.
Example 2:
Tomato is camming around sim when he sees Jeff and Grandma together somewhere a ways away. He decides to join them for role play but by the time he arrives in chat range Grandma is already gone.
Tomato posts: "Where is Grandma? I just saw her here."
Example 3:
Lemon is standing within chat range as Sam tells a secret to Lily, but Lemon hasn't posted since this scene began nor posts any reaction. Later on Lemon claims to know this secret, having never made it apparent that they were a part of the scene at all.
Example 4:
Tomato and Potato don't get along, so Tomato decides to start ICly sharing and exploiting information and weaknesses of Potato's that he read in his profile or learned OOCly.

Mary-Sue
A Mary Sue character has a lot of feats and few or no flaws. A character who's too perfect, often good at nearly everything though lacking logical or realistic flaws, or their flaws do not effect them anyways.
Example:
scenario 1: Jeff and friends find themselves trapped at the bottom of a pit, but Jeff can fly so he rescues everyone.
scenario 2: Jeff and friends need to cross a river, since Jeff has mastered all elements he freezes the water and they pass over.
scenario 3: Jeff and friends are injured badly after battle, but Jeff is also a healer so he heals everyone.
scenario 4: Unfortunately one of Jeff's friends didn't survive, but Jeff can also revive the dead, so he resurrects his friend.
Almost each and every time Jeff has an ability that can seemingly solve any issue and nothing really seems to slow him down. Always making Jeff the hero, never giving any of his friends a chance to shine or even be useful in a scene, and removing all danger or suspense from the story. While some players may not mind, more will. Please balance your character.
