RevenantWhen a hero dies with his task unfulfilled, or the world cries out for a hand of vengeance and she answers it, even the barriers of death may not keep the righteous soul from moving on in their tenacious path. Some souls will pass through the gates of their heavenly reward, only to be forced back into their broken bodies with a task they must complete. Others are slain and their magnificent wills cry out to avenge themselves of this wrong. Yet others, raised as the Undead, break free of their bonds with their ragged wills strong enough to continue their banned existence. In all cases, a soul who’s bucked the wheel of fate can never return to the sublime reward beyond the veil of death, but wander until their quest is complete or they are destroyed. This is the life of a Revenant.
General Lifespan It’s wrong to think of a Revenant in terms of a lifespan. They are undead beings that will persist on this material plane until their quest is complete, they are destroyed, or their wills, shorn with their own grief of their demise, unravels and they go mad. Even then, a Revenant will persist in their ravenous fury until they are put down, and laid once more to rest. Strengths/Abilities In their Undead state, Revenants are bodies of painlessly great strength, their hearts don’t beat and they begin to think, not in their brains but with what tattered soul has been pushed into this plane. They are relentless, tenacious warriors and magicians who can run down their prey with a single-minded devotion that transcends all reason. If a Revenant is slain, it depends on how strong their soul remains if they can reconstitute a body. Weakness No matter how noble their cause, Revenants fall into the category of the Undead and they are prone to many of the same allergies to holy devices and instruments. They hunger ceaselessly for their meals of choice, which may be flesh, bones, blood, souls, or anything else their dead bodies crave in this sorry excuse for an afterlife. If a Revenant’s soul is too weak and tattered with the jealousy of life, they may fail to reproduce their bodies if they’re slain. Once destroyed, a Revenant generally cannot return to any life, or afterlife. |
