WerewolvesThroughout history there have been countless tales of Lycanthrope's or wolfmen. Depicted as ravenous beasts that howl at the moon and fierce hunters of not only livestock but humankind itself.
There are two most commonly known types of werewolves in Nuvaria. Those born from bite and those that were birthed into this life naturally. Werewolves who were thrust into this world by bite are often more feral beasts. Their change was more likely forced through a horrific attack. Their animalistic traits are often more pronounced and difficult to control. Upon the full moon their shifting is more forced then controlled. They easily lose control when enraged and often suffer what is called a frenzy. In frenzy, their beast is in more control then the man. In frenzy they will strike out and attack those around them. These type of werewolves are not pack focused. They tend to roam in solitude. They are often the drifters and wanderers. Werewolves born in to this life usually have a better connection with their given traits. Though their shifts under the full moon are more under their control, it can not be avoided. Intense emotions such as rage can often trigger a werewolf to feel the need to shift and act with aggression. While they usually have better control than someone who was bitten, at times they can lose that control and become enraged just the same if their anger is not kept in check. These types are more often pack focused. More willing to follow an Alpha or lead wolf. General Lifespan The lifespan of a were wolf can reach up to 100 years of age. But it is not uncommon for them to surpass this. They are however, not immortal. Strengths/Abilities A werewolf or lycanthropes abilities often are determined by bite or birth. A wolf born with this nature will usually be more in touch with his abilities some of which might surprise you. While a bitten wolf is more likely to use brute force and physical violence when threatened. Most all wolves have heightened senses, their sense of hearing, smell, and sight will be far better than that of man. Some wolf packs have even been reported using a means of telepathy between themselves. Given them great advantage in numbers.. as if they were not dangerous enough on their own. Werewolves tend to heal very rapidly and are most commonly known to be immune to other diseases. Avoid being bitten, while every bite isn't guaranteed to turn one into a werewolf it is very possible, human kind being the most vulnerable. Even when not turned, it isn't unheard of to become very ill or suffer some of the effects of turning. Such as sensitivity to light, sound, and smell. Or in some unlucky cases uncontrollable blood lust. Common to all Weakness Silver and Wolfsbane are the most well known deterrents for werewolves. During a full moon, individuals usually exhibit signs of impatience, anxiety, restlessness, and/or aggression. Younger and recently-turned werewolf typically cannot maintain the mental and physical control necessary to prevent outbursts of extreme behavior and chaotic thought patterns. This quickly leads to a feral state, in which the conscious mind goes haywire, shutting down and an uncontrolled transformation to either feral or wolf form occurs. At this point, mental control is replaced by a primal subconscious, driven solely on primitive instincts and basic needs. High-Frequency Noise - The effect of high-pitched noises can range from irritating, to deafening, to dangerously incapacitating - depending upon their intensity. High frequency noises at extreme amplitudes can rupture ear drums and cause severe damage - leading to temporary loss of hearing and vertigo. |
